Queens, NY’s own Nikhil P. Yerawadekar began playing guitar in Antibalas in September of 2008, and has been playing bass with the band since 2010. Since then, he has been all over the planet in pursuit of great music, always focusing on the connectedness that makes the art form pop off the way it’s supposed to.
Outside of Antibalas, Nikhil plays in a handful of choice groups such as The Sway Machinery and No Small Money Brass Band and stays busy with freelance production projects. He also fronts his own group Nikhil P. Yerawadekar & Low Mentality, which takes stock of all the musical influences he’s absorbed throughout his life and places them together to make deeply groovy, idea-rich songs that are as at home in a pair of headphones as they are on the dance floor. The band’s debut album, Everything Lasts Forever, comes out on 3rd Generation Recordings on April 22nd, 2016.

From working as the musical director for the Hailu Mergia & Low Mentality project (in which the band brought new life to the legendary Ethiopian keyboardist’s classic compositions for a year of critically acclaimed performances), to backing popular music icons such as Allen Toussaint, Cee-Lo, Billy Gibbons, Judy Collins and Bob Mould with Antibalas at Carnegie Hall two years in a row, to contributing nuanced and thoughtful music to film and television projects, Nikhil’s enchanted, impossible-to-predict path in music continues to evolve.
